edu2.0
Jon Udell’s recent podcast is an interview with Graham Glass, the founder of edu 2.0 which is worth a look from all of us in the business of education.
Glass’s vision is that technology has reached the point that self-directed learners should be able to acquire online all the necessary resources for achieving primary and secondary education. edu2.0 is a web-based community and repository for learning materials. Members of the site may be producers of content as well as consumers. Sakai gets a mention in the interview; Glass says he doesn’t expect his system to replace it or its peers.
The rise of homeschooling is well-documented, but I predict we’re on the brink of an explosion. I think I’d rather call it “worldschooling though, because the trend is that kids (and adults, for that matter) are practicing their curriculum wherever they go. This has always been the case, of course, but we are beginning to see the opportunity to measure these experiences and shape them to our educational objectives.
